Happy New Year!!!

Hello Families!

Well time has flown by and sadly my blog has suffered from it! December was a busy, busy, busy month with lots of fun and lots of learning! I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday break, it sounds like many of the kids had a wonderful time.

It's always a transition back to school after a break. Without fail, the first day back was filled with lots of yawns and "I'm tired" complaints. However, students were able to get back into the swing of things quickly and continue the math learning!

In 5th grade...
We have finished our work with adding fractions (for now) in unit 3. Which means that right after the break students had a test. I knew they could handle a test right after break so we spent a day reviewing and as I expected, many students did very well on their test. They will get their tests back on Monday and will be bringing them home to have an adult sign them and make corrections on the problems they got incorrect.
Our new unit is all about decimals and coordinate grids! We have started to review and learn how to read and write decimals to the thousandths place.

In 6th grade...
We have continued  our work with decimals. Students reviewed how to add, subtract, and multiply decimals. We then learned how to divide using Long Division instead of Partial Quotients (I'm sure many parents were excited to see their child dividing the way they learned how!). Once students showed that they were really starting to understand Long Division, I taught them how to divide decimals using Long Division! So many students caught on right away and they even seemed excited about getting it!!
We will start to transition into learning about percents!

As always, please don't hesitate the contact me with any questions, comments, or successes!!
Enjoy some long overdue pictures of our students having fun and learning!

Both 5th grades joined to have an advisory time together. They grouped up and played a version of charades. It was fun and very funny! Mrs. Rose and I plan on getting together more often to have joined advisory time with the 5th graders.

Back to math class...

Mrs. Martino led the classes in an Hour of Coding. Please see her blog to learn more about the Hour of Coding!
