End of November update!

Hi Families!

We are flying into the end of the 1st trimester! Wow that went by fast! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. By the sounds of it, students had a great time with their families and ate their hearts out!

Lately in....

5th grade:
Students learned how to multiply multi-digit numbers using U.S. tradition. This is the method that many of you use! Now you can help them practice this method at home! Below are some pictures of the 5th  graders practicing this method using chalk outside on a sunny day! We have also review how to divide using partial quotients (this is most likely not how parents learned how to divide). Please don't try to teach students different methods for dividing, this only confuses them!

6th grade:
Students took their unit 1 test and many did very well! Hopefully by now they have brought that home for an adult at home to sign and made corrections to any problems  they got incorrect. We have reviewed how to multiply mixed numbers. We will soon be learning how to divide fractions using the common denominator strategy. Please don't teach your student to "flip the second and multiply." This doesn't help them learn why that trick works. Towards the end of this unit they will learn about ratios.

6W Advisory class:
My 6W class met with their Kindergarten buddies last week. Their buddies showed them their book boxes and they read together. It was so wonderful to see how kind and caring 6W is to their buddies! So cute!

Have a wonderful week and enjoy some picture below!
